Whatever the masses wanted

I DJ'd at the Prospect radio station for the first half of senior year so I played whatever anybody wanted to hear. Styx, Journey and REO Speedwagon got a lot of airtime.  Pink Floyd and Yes were popular too.  One time I played Barry Manilow just to see if it would get a rise out of anybody.  It did.

All I can remember is "Dust in the Wind" playing every single day in the cafeteria.

Don't remember that.  But I had nothing to do with it!

Greg, I actually remember the Barry Manilow stunt.  We about died laughing, and I'm pretty sure I made an ass of myself singing along loudly with Meg Hildebrandt.  You were great as our DJ!

Gotta say tho, I still can't stand listening to REO, and am almost as averse to Journey, which had more to do with how overplayed they were on radio ... and listening to them over and over and over again while playing backgammon in Karen Normandt's bedroom with her and Michelle Noland.  REO played in Chicago on my birthday three freaking years in a row, and every year, someone with the intuitive skills of seaweed would give me tickets. Boston's another one I can't listen to.

REO was done "Riding The Storm Out" when they wrote, the lyrics to the song, "she doesn't like the tough guys".  That song will drive you crazy.

I would go to the library for study hall and listen to Frampton Comes Alive on their headphones - I think that was the only album they had.

Me too!  But I thought the only album in the library was Fleetwood Mac Rumours...  I still can't hear a song off that album without thinking about sitting at the table with those headphones on!

I seem to remember Led Zepplin IV every day in the library and that was before it became recommended on Fast Times at Ridgemont High as make out music...

Springsteen,Seeger and Tom Petty.  I remember the Mass tossing my eight track of Born to Run out of the Silver Bullet.  He also said "this Springsteen guy will never make it big" Right  again Frank.

Was I the only idiot reading BOOKS in the library??  Okay, I lie...I don't even remember there being a library at Prospect... but as far as music from high school days - c'mon - the ROLLING STONES!!!  Couldn't get enough of Mick.  And what about The Cars, Cheap Trick, Pink Floyd, and some that were mentioned already - Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, Chicago, and any other band that decided to name themselves after a big city.
