Is Luke's still around?

For my money, Luke's was the best. They gave you a ton of fries that were served in a white bag, allowing you to see just how much grease was going into your bloodstream.  It wasn't as close as some of the other spots so you had to eat fast if you wanted to make it back for next period.  I also remember they had bright green relish.  Wonder what was in that stuff?

Hey Greg,

Lukes is still around & is my favorite place, my kids love it too.

First place I go when I come to town !

They moved directly accross the street from where they used to be & are now called Torrey & Lukes

The fries are still huge & taste great.

Wasn't Peep's the other one we used to hit if the line was too long at Luke's?

And Greg, that fluorescent green color is what swore me off relish til I found Claussen's ... too skeery!

Lukes and Peeps were great, but for my money, Olympus Gyro was the best.  Where else could you get greeted by John the mad greek?  He would smile and the gold tooth would gleem at you just like Joe Pesci in Home Alone.  Can't you just picture him raising his hand with the famous "ok" sign asking...."AAHHH... YOU WANT GYRO?  Gyro, fries, and a Coke....$2.50  pronounced 2 feeeefty.

Im with Dan on this one. I miss John the MAD GREEK over at Olympus Gyros. The food is still good, but NOT as good as it use to be when John owned the place.

The CRAZY GREEK arm wrestled me once for a free gyro.

3 spots I always hit when I come to town, Olympus Gyros, Lukes & Eros Ice Cream Parlor in Arligton Hts, has the BEST Root Beer Shake (not float) I have ever had. Eros has been around since the early 70's !

Olympus Gyros, The 1st place I ever had a Gyro and I'm sure most of you can say that as well. I've never found any place better. Their sauce was the best I've ever had and made the difference. I can almost taste it now.

My first date with Ann Kelly was July 19th 1980.  We sent to see this new movie --The Blues Brothers. On Saturday nights at the Mt Prospect train station parking lot they host an old car cruise night.  Because it was the 30th reunion of the movie and because the famed police car came from Mt Prospect they featured "Blues Mobiles" last Saturday night.  I pulled our 1965 Fastback Mustang out and headed over.  I couldn't believe there were 11 "Blues Mobiles" there!  Anyway, to make a long story endless, Ann and I walked down to Olympus for a Gyro.  The guy that used to make the french fry's has been the owner for 9 years.  Not exactly a mailroom to boardroom story but he remembered me.  I asked about John and he said John had passed away 3 years ago. Next time you order a Gyro ask for extra sauce and say a prayer for John! He was one of the good guys.

Frank, Eros was that little restaurant in the strip mall off NW Hwy., right?  Kate Reedy (went to PHS freshman year, or part of, before her dad got his way and sent her to Sacred Heart) waitressed there for years.  You're spot on, cuz everything there was great, but especially any and all of their ice cream thingies.  I went there at least once a week w/ my St. Ray's girlfriends for several years, because it was the only way we ever got to see Kate; she was always working (she's still always working).  But we never passed up the ice cream.  The food was good, too, but with only so much cash in the pocket, we had to have our priorities straight ;).

Speakin' of, Kate'll be one of my dates for the reunion, along with Deb Hyde - a couple of reluctant emigres, or just PHS wannabees.
