I had a message here, logged in, and all of a sudden, I was looking around the room trying to figure out where the whistles were coming from!  Tell me that was Jimmy Kobler on the whistle so I can get another belly laugh out of it, please :D.

Who else remembers having to learn the words before we started freshman year, out of fear that we'd have to sing it in Circle Drive?  Among the million memories I have of Glory Singer ('78), one of the best is her teaching me the words in my sister's bedroom (complete with arm movements, cuz it was Glo), and a loud shout of "U-RAH!!!" in the middle.  She wouldn't let me quit til I had it right.  Gawd, starting PHS was one of the scariest things I've ever done, and I still have some fear associated with that song.  My sister promised to have Brad Millar, Paul Izban, Tom Sampson, or one of a few others drag me out to sing, so I was diving into the bathrooms when I saw any of her friends for weeks - later Diz and Tom told me they'd NEVER do that ... I'm still not sure I believe 'em ;).  I really was scared silly, cuz I can't carry a note, let alone a tune.  Memories can be pretty crazy, eh?

Funny - I forgot about learning the fight song words and worrying that I would be forced to perform on the first day.  Jim Kobler was my first real date.

I don't think a lot of the kids from Lincoln and Miner realize how scary it was going from a small, Catholic school to PHS.  We'd all been together very homogenously - along w/ our brothers, sisters, & parents - for 8 years in class, Mass, parish functions, etc., and PHS seemed enormous and other.  I remember more than a handful of us admitting to being fairly petrified.  Sounds silly that that was one of the scariest things I've ever done, but on the bright side, it has left me with a rational perspective on fear.

And btw, my sister could be evil ;).  While I'm on personalities, good choice for a first date, Deb!
