Disco Demolition Night

After perusing the "Top Songs of 1980" link to the right of this page, I became increasingly cognizant that most of the music on that list was not an accurate representation of the types of music I or my friends listened to by choice during highschool (or would admit to it).

For most people I knew, our affinity for music through 1976-1980 was influenced by our older siblings, radio stations such as WXRT and WLUP, concerts and weekend social activities.  I do not recall a time I was cruising with my friends jamming to the sounds of "Muskrat Love" or Have You Ever Been Mellow".

Nostalgic memories of Rush's "What You Do'in", Ted Nugent's "Snakeskin Cowboy" and "Free for All", Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Sledehammer" off of Not Fragile,  Styx's Equinox  and the Grand Illusion albums, The Doobie Brothers, Bad Company, Grand Funk Rail Road, The Steve Miler Band, Molly Hatchet, Van Halen, The Marshall Tucker band, Aerosmith, Montrose, The Alan Parson's Project; the list goes on and on.  Memories of the Dudes hanging out along the Circle Drive Glass Ledge displaying their YES concert shirts the morning after attending a concert.  Cruising to the sounds of "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws.

Although my taste during college evolved to appreciate the sounds of smooth jazz, blues, reggae, bluegrass, gospel and country; my musical roots are forever sown in Classic Rock.

The Chicago area contributed to the end of disco, now if it can only figure out how to end Rap; here is a link to refresh your memory:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Demolition_Night

What were you listening too during those days?
