Katie was a special friend.  Four years after I graduated high school, my father passed away while I was at Iowa State.  When I came home and attended my father's serices, I was fortunate to have some close friends there for me.  I hadn't talked to Katie in a while, but there she was at the wake.  She never knew how much that meant to me, but I always remember that caring side of her.

When I think back, I remember her trying to convince me that "The Boss" was the man, and to her credit, I did come around to that notion.  she also had a crush on Bill Buckner that I am sure was dashed some years later due to some hand-eye coordination problem.  She tried to teach me some French line from some song that went to waste....Voulu something or other.  I remember she had photos of Eric Heiden in her locker and used to sigh over his thighs that could compact small SUVs.  Her dreams of becoming an entrepeneur, another one of those french words she had to teach me.  She was one smart, funny sweet person who always had a kind word for you or a snappy comeback.

Most of all, I'll miss her smile.
